The offer is available to both new and existing customers. You will have to sign up to the contract for 18 months, but you’ll get a free handset thrown into the deal. There are various options for the handsets, including two 5MP camera phones: The Samsung G600 and the LG KC550. The 3G Nokia 3120 is also available if you’re after quick internet access on the move. You simply go to their website, register and you’ll receive a free dongle worth £29.99 including VAT. The 3 Mobile dongles work in a similar way to pay-as-you-go mobile phones. Simply top-up from £10, pop it into the USB socket of your computer or laptop and away you go! It provides broadband speeds of up to 3.6MPs and you can use it at home or on the move. You don’t have to worry about signing up to a contract. Be aware that you will have to pay a postage fee of £4.95 and the service only applies to the 3 Network. For more information and to register, click here.
Save £360 per year by bundling
You can get broadband for as little as £5.99 a month thanks to competition in the market. If you’re paying more you could save money by going to the new Moneymagpie.com broadband comparison service in partnership with BroadbandChoices.co.uk.
Simply enter your postcode and you will get a list of providers in your area and the different deals that are on offer to you. The search clearly shows the price both per month and for the full term of the contract, which allows you to compare deals that are running promotional offers to start off with. You can also see how much the connection fee will be (if there is one), the speed of the line and the all important download limit. All these details will make your choice much easier to make. Remember, in some cases you can save up to £360 per year by bundling your phone, TV and broadband package – simply select the ‘Broadband & phone/digital TV bundles’ option before pressing search.
Get free phone credit with Tesco Mobile
Tesco mobile will triple your phone credit for free. This ongoing offer is valid on both pay-as-you-go and sim-only contract.
With a pay-as-you-go tariff you top up £15 and Tesco will give you another £30 of free credit. You end up with £45 – three times as much as you initially topped-up. The pay monthly sim-only tariff costs £10 a month. For each month you pay £10 Tesco will quadruple your credit giving you an extra £30 for nothing. So you end up with £40 credit in total. The ‘sim-only’ tariff is a ‘rolling monthly contract’. This means that you don’t have to sign anything and you’re not committed to stay any longer than you want to – just cancel the direct debit when you want to leave. But your credit doesn’t roll over, so you’ve got to use the whole £40 of credit before the month is up. If you don’t think you can, pay-as-you-go might work better for you.

You search for the handset you want by manufacturer, model or features. The phone you order will then be delivered to your door within three working days. Orders of over £100 qualify for free delivery. Not only can you get your hands on recent phone models, but you can also feel virtuous about helping save the planet!

Alternatively if you top up £15 per month you’ll get 600 free texts and (for just 30p a day) unlimited web access and for £10 per month it’s 300 free texts and (for just 30p a day) unlimited web access. When they say unlimited web access they mean 25MB per day (for 30p) or 1GB per month (for £20 top up). There’s a 20p per minute flat rate for calls to any UK network or landline.Plus, if you’re already a Virgin Media customer and you top up with £20 a month, you’ll get free calls to other Virgin Mobiles!
Broadband for under £6
Get broadband for £5.99 per month. Plusnet, a subsidiary of BT, offers the UK’s cheapest broadband service with it’s a standalone package which includes a free wireless router, free set-up, built in firewall, spam protection and a monthly usage allowance of 10GB (enough to send hundreds of emails with attachments).
The broadband service has speeds of up to 8MB a second which is fast enough to handle multiple users on one connection, and will download music tracks in a matter of seconds. There are also no extra tie-ins with TV or telephone so all you’ll pay is the £5.99 per month as long as you are in an ‘optimum broadband area’ which 80% off us in the UK are. Note that you will have to take out an eighteen month contract. How much you pay for broadband depends where you live (based on which telephone exchange supplies your broadband). There are four different categories for telephone exchange areas, created by OFCOM. Plusnet’s £5.99 a month charge only applies for the whole contract if you live in a telephone exchange area known as Market 3 (which roughly 80% of the UK population does). If you live in Markets 1, 2 or 4, however, the £5.99 charge only applies for the first three months of the contract – costing you £11.99 a month thereafter. You can find out which Market area you live in here.
2p International Calls
Get cheap international calls on your mobile. If you’ve got internet on your phone you can call abroad for as little as 2p per minute and get cheap international text messages with Voipium.
It’s a phone service that re-routes your international call as a local call via the internet. You pay your mobile phone network your normal local rate and pay Vopium a top up charge of as little as 2p per minute for the international call. Get started by using your phone to visit Vopium.com and download the software. Once this is done, Vopium will work automatically when you call abroad. The charges work on a pay-as-you-go basis which you can top up by text or online. The Vopium service is available if your phone doesn’t have internet, but it’s slightly more complicated – see the website for details. At the moment they are offering 30 minutes free when you sign up, plus 100 international SMS free for the first month.
Free calls abroad
You know when your father said you talked for Britain? Well, now you can.
O2’s ‘Your Country Pay and Go’ offer gives pay-as-you-go customers 100 extra international minutes free when they top-up £15 per month. Another perk is that customers recoup 10% of their top-ups every three months, though the maximum rebate is £15. Spending £10-£14 per month gives 50 additional minutes, £15-£29 per month wins 100 additional minutes, and more than £30 per month entitles customers to 200 extra minutes. Also, the Your Country deal makes calling the subcontinent particularly cheap. Ringing landlines in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh costs you just 7p per minute; calls to mobiles cost 30p per minute. ‘Your Country’ calls can be connected from the UK to virtually anywhere in the world.

Purchases are also interest free for the first three months and after that you will pay a typical rate of 18.9% APR. Compare European flights with rail journeys
Compare the price of European flights against the price of rail journeys with Momondo.com. These guys claim to search more websites for prices than any other flight comparison site.
However, because Europe’s high-speed rail network is so advanced, on the continent it’s often cheaper and quicker to take the train than to fly. So Momondo have configured their main search engine to include both flights and the available rail journeys. You don’t have to do anything special to see the rail options. Just type your search into the normal flight search boxes and train journey results will appear to. We did a test search between Brussels and Amsterdam and found the cheapest flight was £185, but the cheapest train journey was just £39. There are big savings to be made and by taking the train you’re also doing your bit for the environment. The search tool works on all train journeys between destinations in mainland Europe.

Get up to 80% off premium designer clothes and accessories at fashion website Cocosa.
The site normally works on an invitation-only basis, but I’ve arranged it so that lucky Express readers can sign up by using the invite code ‘moneymagpie‘(valid until 31 October). As an added extra, the lovely team at Cocosa has arranged a £15 voucher for anyone that signs up using this code. You’ll be able to see this at the checkout stage – just select the tick box to claim the voucher. What’s more, you can make £15 every time you refer a friend and they make their first purchase. Each fashion sale is announced to members in advance by e-mail. The sales normally focus on one designer brand at a time and last for 48 hours. Previous collections include Christian Lacroix and Jonathan Saunders.
