I have just gone through a long discussion with Castle Insurance (don't believe the ad' about 'a quote in a minute'), only to find that it is at least 20 per cent higher than Churchill. I am 63, my insurance is £405, with full no claims, yet Castle's best offer was £506, with minimum £500 excess, instead of the £250 already received. The reason it was so high, I was told, was that I drive a BMW530. Might be okay if you are over 60 with a Ford Fiesta, but those with bigger or more highly powered cars are better not to waste valuable time.

I found Castle Insurance unsuitable - either dearer than Rias or they like you to insure Buildings + contents together.
This month I have decided on Contents Insurance with AgeUK.
The policy can be worked out locally, face to face. I found out today you need to claim by phone.
When a company phones to give you a quote over the phone, inevitably they make a few assumptions which are not correct. And there is an Admin charge or commission charge.
I have not investigated online insurance as yet. I will consider it for holiday insurance, which ought to be fairly straightforward.
