Money Tips – A guide to your favourites!

Flickr/krisszphotography

We are constantly on the lookout for the best ways for you to save money and make cash on the side. We know you’re money-savvy too so we’ve had a look at what you’ve been clicking on. Here are the money tips that are the most popular with Moneymagpie readers.

Online Surveys

These have proven very popular with people trying to make some extra cash. You can start quite easily and anyone can do it.

One of the most popular survey sites among our users is Lightspeed Panel. They offer £0.25 to £10 for completing a survey and also run prize draws. They’ll send you a cheque every time you accumulate £20 or, if you’re a UK resident, they’ll lodge quantities of £10 or more directly into your account. Spending one evening a week with this while watching TV could pay some bills for you! Have a go with these paid surveys.

Stocks and Shares ISAs

These are a great way to invest in the Stock Market while avoiding Capital Gains Tax. Investing in your future is always important and these ISAs have been designed to help you start a long term savings programme, perhaps with the aim of it subsidising your pension.  Though daunting at first, ISAs are fantastic tax-free investments. If you don’t know where to start then take a look at this FREE investor’s guide, which has proven very popular with our users and will set you on the right path. Also, we explain why we like index-tracking funds best and how to invest in them in our stocks and shares ISAs article.

Recycle your mobile

Mobiles can be tough things to hold on to. Between kids, pets and ‘misplaced’ bags they can have a way of losing themselves. If, however, you’re a bit more careful with your belongings then you may have amassed a small collection of ex-phones. Turn this junk into cash. You could make up to £250 per handset by recycling them. It’s helpful to the environment and it puts your new phone at ease by getting the ex’s out of the way. There’s also the cash incentive!

Cashback sites

They sound good and they are good too. Get rewards such as £7.50 for referring a friend or £2.50 for simply signing up yourself. There are loads of things that will earn you a cashback reward. General online shopping, signing up to different websites and switching electricity suppliers are amongst some ways to earn cash. You can even get cash for just signing up to them. These, along with bagfuls of other cashback offers, are available at your favourite Greasy Palm (one of the ones that pay you just to join).

Virgin Money Credit Card

We review many different credit cards for you and you’ve been repeatedly choosing the Virgin Money Credit Card.  Not a surprise. After all, it has been ‘best of breed’ for a while, offering 0% on balance transfers for 20 months and 0% on purchases within the first three months. Its representative APR is just 16.8% variable too. This card hits the nail on the head if you have a big debt on your current credit card and you want to save on interest payments. Apply for your credit card now to save money.

Travelodge

Interest has been resurfacing in the British Holiday. With some good weather this summer, it could be the perfect time to visit some of the beautiful cities closer to home. The Travelodge hotel deals have proven themselves a favourite choice amongst our visitors.  They always have great offers and right now they have thousands of rooms for just £19, if you book three weeks in advance, and £29 if you book one week in advance. Since England was knocked out of the World Cup, we all need a break  There are some great locations to visit in the UK so check out their hotel deals now!

First Direct 1st Account

Would you like £100 for nothing? Sure you would! You can get £100 just for switching to First Direct’s 1st Account. That’s not all, though. If you’re not satisfied with the account after six months, First Direct will pay you another £100 and help you move your money elsewhere.  Open an account via the quick and easy online form and you’ll receive your reward. We don’t have to tell you why this has been so popular amongst our readers. It’s one of the simplest ways we’ve found to make £100 so make sure you do it!

Lastminute.com

Lastminute.com are very popular with our readers because they have some of the best deals around.

Right now you can get up to 45% off at their Top Secret Hotels. You book a city and a date and you are told the hotel you will be staying at just before the date you booked. You are guaranteed a certain star rating hotel, depending on what you’ve opted for. If you want to book your whole holiday as a package, then check out their Lastminute holiday section, which currently has last minute deals for winter sun holidays from just £209.50 per person!

Their Theatre deals are updated weekly and we are really impressed by them. They have a 50% off section which has offers on top West End shows each week. Check it regularly for the most current offers.

If you’re stuck for gift ideas for a loved one, Lastminute.com could be the place to look for something really special. The site is offering 50% off Experiences. Current deals include a Ferrari Thrill Ride from £69, Indoor Paintballing from £14.50 or for something a little calmer, why not enjoy a Hendrick’s High Tea for Two at Hush in Mayfair at £24.50 for two people.

Co-Operative home & car insurance

You’ve been very keen on the home and car insurance on offer from the Co-Operative. With their home insurance, they offer 1/3 off your contents premium if you buy their building and contents insurance together. They also offer up to 40% off, depending on your no claims bonus.

Get a great deal on their car insurance too. If you’re a careful driver and have built up your no claims bonus they’ll give you a discount of up to 70%! If that wasn’t enough, you qualify for an extra discount when you order it online.

Credit Expert

There have been an increasing number of identity fraud cases in the UK recently, particularly identity theft. Fraud is on the rise (see our latest article on seasonal money scams) and we all need to be extra-vigilant. People can set up accounts in your name and damage your credit rating.  Credit Expert offer a 30 day FREE trial membership so you can check your credit rating. They’ll also offer advice on how to improve it if it isn’t up to par. By taking their advice you could save £100s in interest payments.
