I’ve really had it with my business bank. The Moneymagpie account is with Abbey Nationa Business and, until last week, I was generally fairly happy with it. They were no more incompetent than any other bank and, importantly, they offered free banking (even a tiny bit of interest if you are in credit).
Then, last week they ‘upgraded’ their website. Ha! Yeh right. Upgrade.
Obviously as I run a website myself, I know what IT departments can do. Sometimes big mistakes are made but you expect them to be sorted at least within 24 hours. It’s been a week now and the Abbey National Business website has been hopeless for throusands and thousands of customers. I can’t make payments, there are some very odd references to ‘accounts’ connected to old debit cards and the whole thing’s a mess.
The poor employees in the Abbey call centres don’t know what’s happening and aren’t able to help properly. My business bank manager has no idea what’s going on. The latest news about Abbey, too, is that Santander, which owns it, is slashing 8% of jobs in the new year which will probably bring service down even more.
Let’s see if Abbey bosses are willing to pull their fingers out over the next 24 hours and actually sort these problems that thousands of customers like me are still suffering. They’ve taken no notice of angry emails and calls that I’ve made so I don’t hold out much hope.
Time to vote with my feet, I think, and move to a bank that is marginally less useless. We’ll be reviewing business banks again in the New Year and will let you know which one we think is the best overall. Watch this space!
