I saw a pack of seed bombs in a shop this afternoon and it reminded me of meeting some guerilla gardeners in Vienna a couple of months ago.

The trip had been arranged by Wimdu.com and they wanted us to meet people who were doing things that were part of the collaborative economy – sharing, renting, swapping and generally living well.

The guerilla gardeners were great and they told me that one of the things they do is to throw ‘seed bombs’ in ditches, at walls, by the side of roads…anywhere that looks like it needs a bit of brightening up.

Great idea I think, particularly as I’ve just had a meeting in the City of London and saw not a blade of grass anywhere from the tube station to the office and back. Horrible!

So, why not make your own and start throwing them?

There’s a ‘recipe’ here for seed bombs. They’re basically seeds, compost and clay and you roll them into a ball.  There, that’s pretty much it.
