I know you've recently had loads of requests for organisations that place students with host families. If you haven't had any luck with local language schools you can try some of these organisations:

SILC - Sejours Internationaux, linguistiques et culturels - these guys are a french organisation who are always on the look out for host families in the UK. Check out their website or email  delphine.v@silc.fr and she'll reply in English.

You can also try Opendoors - and east London exchange organisation Education First - apparently the world's largest language school places foreign students and is looking for host families.

STS language schools offer courses to foreign students all over the UK and are looking for host families. Although these look good, contacting local schools is probably the best way  to go about being a host. I'm still looking to find more organisations that organise hosting foreign students so if you know of any others that are good please let me know.

I've also found these sites:

Twin UK

This feed is looking for host families for July and August this year in Forest Row in East Sussex.

This is an old post on Gumtree Manchester for EF but it has a number and email address that might still work so give it a try.

Studio Cambridge organises host families in Cambridge

Home Language International is a German organisation looking for host families and tutors

Christian English Language Centre is always looking for Christian host families.

M and M host foreign students in London and are always looking for families. Drop them an email with your address and contact details and they will get back to you. Hope this helps!

I live in west sussex (near Chichester), we have hosted a spanish student last July, we are very much interested on repeating the experience.

Would anyone have contact details of schools or organisations doing this within our area.

Many thanks

Nathalie

Hi Nathalie, Apart from all the great links given above (some of them you would probably be able to choose the area you live), it's good to try foreign language schools - Idiom.co.uk gives out a list by region, or just the universities in your area. Chichester College takes international students. You can call the admin office and ask about the accomodation situation for their international students and whether you can be put on a list as someone who will take students. I also found this one about UK host families for French students:

Quote:

SILC (sejours internationaux, linguistiques & culturels) are a French organisation who are constantly looking for UK host families. They are based in France. Their representative who covers Britain is Delphine Vallet. If you are interested in being a host family you can email her at delphine.v@silc.fr Their address is 32 Rempart de l'Est, 16022 Angouleme Cedex, France, tel + 33 5 45 97 41 69). When writing to them, please include your own address, or town, as they only do visits to some areas, mainly England (more about this below). Their website is www.silc.fr. It's only in French, but if you email Delphine, she reads and writes English.

The Chichester District Council gives the details of all your local schools and colleges, so there's a few more here.

Good luck with finding someone!

I am currently living in a 3 bedroom house on my own in Kingston upon Hull.  I am looking to bring in some extra money to help with the rising cost of living.  Does anyone know of any organisations that are looking for hosts for foreign students within my area.

I have never done this before so anyone that has already played host to a student can they let me know of their experiences and whether it is worthwhile doing.

Thanks
