Angry     Co-operative Bank persistent telephoning?
Dotted Line

I am almost 60 and have a good credit rating.  There is nothing wrong with my balance, payments or otherwise with Co-operative Bank who took over Northern Rock Credit Card some years ago.

I have noticed, more since the beginning of the credit crunch, that they are persistently phoning me.   I have to tell them my password etc., before I can even ascertain why they are calling me.  The staff are always pleaseant, but I think calls like this are needless.

I'm getting seriously annoyed by this and want it to stop.

Can I, and if so, how do I stop it?  Has anyone else experienced this?

What about the Justice Act etc?

I have no bad debt.

On looking through each day hoping for a reply.  I see that there have been 17 views of my question.   No replies - why is this?    I cannot believe that a site which is supposed to help has not given me at least one reply.

The title of this discussion forum is "Ask MoneyMagpie" -?

I shall take note of this next time you advertise on any dserious money programme on television.

Hi Anna,

This has nothing to do with your balance, or your accounts with the bank. This is the bank wanting to persuade you to do more business with them. Of course you are correct, this is harrassment and they cannot do that to you legally and morally (I can't say much for the morals of banks though).

Recently, the telecoms regulator Ofcom served Barclays the highest fine ever for cold calling customers, at £50,000. If your name is down on the national telephone preference service as not wanting nuisance calls, and you are still receiving them, that company can be fined £5000.

1. Make sure the bank is aware that you don't want them to correspond with you by phone.

2. Register with the Telephone Preference Service here, and if you continue to get calls from them, Ofcom will show you how to put a complaint in to them here.

Have a look at our Scamwatch article for further information and advice on keeping ahead of scams. There are sadly many other scams of similar circumstances under the messageboard thread Scams and Dodgy dealings.

Good Luck!
