Sometimes I feel like I’m in the middle of whirlwind.

Let me elaborate – everything is going on around me, and often involves me but that I have very little control on the final outcome of many of the thing the whirlwind spews up.

I am organised but I do allow a bit of room for disorganisation.

So if things don’t go to plan, and often they don’t when you have little ones, I don’t get too upset.

With a wedding to plan, a freelance career that still needs a lot of nuturing, a business to get off the ground and of course my family to look after it can seem overwhelming.

But that’s life.

Thing is there’s been a couple of occasions recently when I felt that I was very close to losing it, not my temper but to crossing a line I don’t normally.

For example -forgeting to mind my tongue when my daughter is in earshot.

Imogen was happily chomping away on a sausage when my mother in law (to be) asked me something about the brand of sausages I’d bought.

In my reply to her I somehow managed to slip in the detail ‘I don’t like sausages the smell of them cooking makes me want to gag’.

Normally I’m really careful about my vegetarian eating habits in front of my daughter but on this occasion I broke my own rule.

Then there’s the time I bought a train ticket last week – and was so engrossed in what I was going to say to the priest in order to make sure Imogen gets into our local Catholic nursery school – I didn’t pick up the ticket.

Luckily the guard let me buy another ticket at the other end. But this again was something a bit out of character.

Then at the weekend I ended up confronting a family member who had crossed the line in terms of trying to tell me what to do with our wedding.

In the months to come I’m going to have to keep my cool, and my parenting head firmly on. Tips on how to do this (yoga I already do) are welcome.
