This week Jasmine addressed the difficult topic of debt:

Debt problems can quickly get overwhelming and out of control, but if you follow Jasmine's advice, you'll be back on top of things in no time.

  • Complete a Statement of Affairs or SOA. It sounds ominous, but is basically just a summary of your incomings and outgoings so you can see where your money is spent, and how to go about changing your spending habits.
  • Keep a spending diary. If you write down everything you spend and what you spend it on, every day for a week or so, you'll see which things cost you the most and work out what you may be able to do without. Have a look at our article to find out more about keeping a spending diary.
  • Try to cut your costs at the supermarket; read our article on sneaky supermarket tricks to find out how supermarkets make you spend more, and how to avoid falling for their sneaky marketing.
  • Make some big changes and you could save yourself serious money. Read our article about reducing your outgoings to see just how much you could save.
  • Read our guide to getting out of debt for loads more information on how to sort out your finances.

Last week Jasmine was talking about making money at car boot sales:

It's a great way to get rid of all the stuff you don't want in one go. A pitch only costs around £10 and it's also a fun day out with the kids. Here are Jasmine's top tips for car boot success:

  1. Try and have three or four different amounts that everything is priced at - say 50p, £1 and £2 each - to make it simple for buyers.
  2. Put the prices on everything the day before you go so that it's easy when you get there.
  3. Take a friend or family member if possible so that you have support and there's always somewhere there if you need to have a pee!
  4. Take a flask and food to keep you going.
  5. Get there as early as possible to get a good pitch and put your stuff out before the annoying dealers come round and try to take things out of your boxes.
  6. Take enough tables to display your stuff and have a lot of change with you which you should keep safely in a bum-bag or pouch hanging round your neck.
  7. Remember that perfume, small gift-type items and collectibles sell particularly well so put those at the front.
