Free Radios for Over 70s

Reading Time: < 1 min

UPDATE: Radios have all been claimed.

With coronavirus dominating almost every aspect of our lives right now, lots of initiatives are here to help. Consequently, you can nominate a vulnerable person over 70 to get a radio for free.

The Scheme

We spotted this one thanks to Wavelength. They are a charity who give media technology to lonely people living in poverty. Consequently, they are especially important at this current time.

This is what they say about the opportunity on their website:

“WaveLength, along with Argos, Currys PC World, John Lewis & Partners, Pure and Roberts Radio, are coming together with BBC Local Radio’s Make a Difference initiative. They wish to provide radios to the most vulnerable over 70s. Also, radio has a unique role providing local news. Sharing information in the community and providing entertainment. As well as being a companion to listeners.

In 1939, WaveLength was founded to fight loneliness. As the oldest loneliness and technology charity, we give radios, televisions, and tablet computers to those most in need. We recognise that we are living in very challenging circumstances. At this critical time, it’s important that everyone can feel part of their community.”

How to get involved

To nominate someone for a radio there is a simple form to fill out on the website and that’s it. You’ll have done some good and hopefully made someone very happy!

*Please note that due to high demand, WaveLength have currently suspended applications for the free radio.

Hi Mary, unfortunately they’ve had too many applications and so have paused the opportunity. Might be an idea to keep checking back to see if they re-open it.

Yes I’m getting that thing about a password. It wasn’t there before. I think that, as Marc says, they have had too many people applying and have shut it down for a while. They should say that on the website though.

Yes, you’re right. Maybe they’ve paused the amount of people who can make a submission for a while.
