Homeworking scams

Reading Time: 1 min

Watch out for the rise in homeworking scams.

I suppose it’s not a surprise really, but it’s so gutting that as the economy worsens the sharks and scammers get busier!

According to the Office of Fair Trading (OFT), last year 209 people reported misleading home working schemes to Consumer Direct (the consumer advice website run by the Government). But this is just the tip of the iceberg. Only 2% of people who get taken in by the scams actually report them. Really over 300,000 people are taken in by them every year!

We’re going to research a piece on how to spot a homeworking scam and how to work from home properly. Keep coming back to the site to check.

In the meantime, though, here are a few points:

  • Don’t go for anything that asks for payment upfront to join or get an information pack.
  • Check with this site and ask on the messageboards if you’re not sure if something is legitimate or not.

Then check on our Make Money section for real ideas for making money from home.
