Showersaint (or Ecosplash) – is this a scam?
November 5, 2011
I’ve just had a card posted through the door apparently from a company called Shower Saint (www.showersaint.com – they say).
They also say they used be called EcoSplash.
This card says that I have requested an ‘Ecosplash’ (from the diagram, apparently some device you attach to your shower – not sure what it does). I never requested one.
I have never heard of Ecosplash. I have never heard of Shower Saint either.
The card tells me that if I want to cancel it I ring 0800 644 5100 (dead number when I called) or email nothanks@showersaint.com (didn’t bother emailing as it looks dodgy to me).
The website is ‘under construction’ but says this device is free. Maybe it is but a) I have never asked for it, b) I have never heard of them c)the phone number doesn’t work d) could it be a scam to get people’s email addresses? I’m going to let my local Trading Standards people look at this.
There’s something very wrong somewhere. Maybe it’s a scam or it’s the most incompetent business I’ve seen in a while!

Yes, I have received this too and today they sent me a questionnair. I am getting fed up of throwing all these things in the bin.
I’ve just read all these comments after searching for shower saint after my plumber recommend I fit one to my new
shower running off my combi boiler.
Proven to save water.
Whats all the fuss about.
Well I never requested this, but received the item today and it looks legit? it even says if you dont want it to send it back free postage??
Yes, you can certainly send it back if you want to, although if you do then they will know that you do actually exist at that address so you might get more advertising stuff later on.
I can’t believe money is being wasted on this thing, because it is a waste,
1)the global warming thing is just propaganda to slow down developing countries(stop them using energy) and a cover for the weather weapon currently in use(chemtrails: I have seen them in action in late 2010(big military jets 3 side by side at a time leaving thick trails that last all day and grow into clouds and rain), they saturate the sky with small particles, so to drop moisture out of the air and change the air pressure systems resulting in differing weather patterns, if you drop the rain over Europe it’ll not be there to drop elsewhere, the secret world war).
2)if you want to restrict water flow just place a small washer at the point where this showersaint is to be inserted (this would cost literally washers)
The money that is being wasted in manufacturing, postage, manpower, if this is being subsided by governments there is something seriously wrong, the money could be used to feed the poor, they go on about the unemployed leeching on society, there are people in a factory making this pointless thing (when they could just be paid to do nothing) and a factory owner creaming it in, all I know is somebody is getting rich from this and probably a politician is getting a share, damn then all.
All the cutbacks going on is just bulldust, it’s all just lies, don’t let them grind you down, just ignore everything and smile at them when they get angry.
Let me guess ME, your american, because its america that took there slow ass time to sign a green bill.
your opinion is also another form of propaganda, usually made by big developing countries to carry on poisoning the planet.
well when the world goes down, i hope it takes out the ignorant first
“your american”
gg
It makes a great little weapon, just throw it at somebodys head and the impact does the rest.
It’s the perfect weight to break a nose, bust a lip, smash teeth or crack a scull.
Thanks Shower Saint, your the best.
This sick plot thickens, today, I received an email from these harassment company asking if Im enjoying their product. Im getting more and more angry. Just to warn everyone that has received the card, then the pracel, they will prob then receive emails in the next weeks. As for the latest lady who asks if trading standards are acting, the answer, unfortunately is they are not. I have advised them via consumer direct but was told although they are well aware that lots of people have had this happen, phoney cards saying that they had ordered a product, then receiving the parcel, they say the company, shower saint was doing a green thing to meet goverment targets, what a load of cobblers, there has to be more to it, like these people are forcing there products on unsuspecting souls then keeping their details, and as I say, anyone who has got the card and the device, they can probably then expect an email, that seems to be stage three.
I have recieved a card. Thought it was strange. Glad I felt suspicious and looked at this website. It’s nearly Christmas I don’t have the time to bother to respond to this card. I think it’s disgraceful, and shouldn’t be allowed to continue. Who is doing anything about this? Are trading standards acting??
We don’t want the shower saint and take my name of your system please. Thanks
This actually terrified me.
I suffer from anxiety and knowing there were people out there with my address trying to trick me was driving me insane, not to mention my worry I was losing my mind after not remembering any sort of request for it.
So happy I found this, no way in hell am I going to contact them.
If I’m this anxious over it, what about poor elderly people suffering from dementia or similar mind-affecting illnesses? The people sending these out are sick.
You are absoloutley right there. My mam has schizophrenia, quite recently she had ect treatment and is on huge amounts of quite heavy medication and tranquillisers, Im only a few doors away but these kind of calling cards and products being delivered, disrupt her and worry her very much. This company has no concern for human kind so why should it be concerned with the environment? kind of funny that, if it wasnt so sick.
i’m 14 and i received one of these cards yesterday-my mum wanted me to send an e-mail but as it said give your e-mail address i decided to do a bit of research- am very glad i did!!!
Warning, get a cup of tea!
I think you’ll find the scam here is on society as a whole, not the individuals receiving the postcards. This is what I think could be going on but please make up your own mind.
Basically, the energy companies are obliged to show to the government that they have spent money on energy saving/carbon reduction schemes – I guess so that the UK can claim the carbon reductions against our international commitments – Kyoto agreement and all that.
If you remember, the energy companies started sending out free compact fluorescent light bulbs to everyone and then claimed the carbon reduction that all those light bulbs would equate to. That was until some bright spark realised that only a very small percentage were actually being put into use and the rest were going to landfill. So that scheme was closed down.
Imagine another scheme along those lines, but a bit more sophisticated.
The problem with the previous scheme was that it was an unsolicited mailing, with no proof those in receipt would use the product.
So this new scheme is dreamt up.
First you need a product that will “save energy” if it’s used. You don’t want light bulbs because they’ve already got a bad name. Something with credentials you could relate to research from BRE for example would help you to justify your claims of savings.
Second, to avoid the problems of the original scheme you have to send out only to “those who have requested” so that you can claim there is a high percentage that will actually get used. So the company running this scheme invites third party websites to refer interested people to them. It pays a small referral fee for each name it gets. Some of these websites will be genuine and email/newsletter their members and pass on genuine referrals, unfortunately there are others less genuine who will use old mailing lists to generate false referrals (for which they’ll get paid).
To counter criticism that referrals may not be genuine you then send out a postcard to the name/address referred in by the third party websites, saying you’re going to send the item and offering a way to cancel it being sent if it’s not been genuinely requested.
This means that you can claim whoever doesn’t cancel must, therefore, be a genuine referral! And the device then gets shipped out to them.
Lets review the results of this scheme.
The referring websites are happy because they’ve got their referral fees.
The company sending these devices out is doing this as a service to the energy companies so they charge them for it. If the scheme is audited they can show they went for people who requested the device, this isn’t an unsolicited mailing. They can also show that to counter the possibility of false referrals they checked with the requestor before sending the device, offering email address and 0800 phone number for cancellations. Those people that cancelled were removed from the list. So the company has got it’s money and is happy.
The energy companies must show they’ve made their required carbon reductions. If audited they can show they got an external company to run this scheme of supplying energy saving devices for them, to people who request them and therefore they receive their carbon credits. So they are happy.
The UK government are happy because they’ve got some figures they can use to claim carbon reduction next time they go to Kyoto.
Now you have to decide whether the ShowerSaint/EcoSplash fits the description above. Decide whether a hot water saving device fits the needs of the device in this scheme. Also decide if the postcards being sent to many of us for people who no longer live at the address suggests false referrals. Also decide if the postcard we’ve all received gives a company the “proof” they’ve given us the opportunity to cancel a false referral.
You probably also need to come to your own conclusion whether the company sending out the devices is worried if they receive false referrals and if they guess that the majority of people receiving the postcard will just throw it in the bin (along with the device). Or worried that if the email address and 0800 number being troublesome for those that tried to use it will reduce the number of cancellations. After all, the fewer cancellations the more devices they can charge the energy companies for.
So where is the scam? Well you could say the company sending out the devices is being scammed by the less scrupulous referral websites, make your own mind up about whether they’re worried about that since the fees will have been costed into the charge the company is making to the energy companies. So are the energy companies being scammed? Well they’re getting the carbon credits that they need, buying them just like the carbon credits that are traded all over the world.
But hang on a minute, where do the energy companies get the money to buy these particular “carbon credits”, oh yes, they increase the unit cost to us of their gas and electricity. So it’s every person amongst us that has a gas or electricity bill that pays then. We’re the ones being scammed!!! All of us!
That’s a very good explanation of the situation. Thanks!
Speaking of carbon credits…there’s an international scam waiting to be blown apart. The fall-out from that when the public finally realises what is being ‘traded’ (i.e. nothing) on international markets in the name of helping the planet will be huge.
Phone numbers don’t work, nor does the email address.
The showersaint.com domain does not even have a public MX (Mail eXchange)record, which is imperative for emails to function to the domain, so, despite Darren’s posturing, his claims it works are either ignorant twaddle or outright lies…ironically, the domain is owned by “identity-protect.org”.
Returning the card simply confirms your address, so throw it away…do the same with the completely useless product, but feel free to send them a housebrick, postage unpaid.
What a nation of paranoids we have become! Like everyone else I received one of these addressed to my 16 year old daughter and though “Uh-oh, what has she been up to?” but it seems to be exactly what it says, a Government backed bit of green nonsense just like the daft idea of sending everyone a handful of energy saving bulbs.
which would have probably been fine, had it been clear this was sent from a goverment backed green scheme rather than some individual company telling us we had actually requested the thing! I have too reported it to consumer direct but feel they wont take any action, despite them admitting lots of people had contacted them to complain. Seems that this company can get away with lying to us, saying we have reuested a device then actually sending us one, when we havent requested it. The comoany should be fined, regardless of its ‘green intent’
they had sent me a shower saint and i dident know what it was so i sent an e-mail back saying leave me alone because i always get holiday leaflets and brosures addresed to me but does sending an e-mail do anything e.g. are they going to send me something again or now they no where i live whats going to happen ????? thank you
Well Darren it looks as though the address Unit 9, Rhodes Business Park, Middleton, Manchester, M24 4PN was only taken off the market about a month ago. Have you moved properties I wonder. Maybe a few of us could call around and say hello to you?
yes maybe every single peson sent one should return it in person back to them.
This thing is sick, there should be some kind of legislation to protect vulnerable people from these unsolicited products.
One of these postcards arrived in my name at my mums, (i lived there for a time, as I was caring for her) she has schizophrenia and is very vulnerable. this whole thing has caused her a lot of worry. I just told her to ignore the card and I didnt want to ring as I thought straight away, this could be dodgy. Then today, like a bad penny, and just like others have said, this package was posted. I have no intention of opening it, let alone using the thing and I am contacting no dodgy phone number as I have neither the time nor enegy to bother with them. Unscrupulous is what this company are! I cant believe that this can happen and all these people who also have had this happen. Why, how can these firms get away with this kind of thing, I guess no matter how much we all complain, nothing will be done as anything ‘green’ is seen as above suspicion. Ridiculous.
Hi all
I applied to get my address details removed from the ‘mailshot lists’ some time ago and on the whole received very little in unsolicited mail since …… until a few weeks back when I got the postcard.
Today I received the package, which I have not opened, and it will be returned to sender later today.
I decided to do a little investigative work myself, so for all those of you who wish to contact the company the following URL may be of use.
http://www.energy-alliance.co.uk/meet-the-team/
There might be a name there that some of you will recognise and another telephone number 0800 644 5100 …… whats the bet that this one will be answered??
I just received a card today myself and of course, same as many others, was addressed to the previous owner, who has been away for more than 2 years. I emailed them and let’s hope my address is removed FOR GOOD. I hope some official does something about this! even if it’s legit, it can still be distressing meaning it should be in violation of whatever marketing regulations exist.
I never phoned or emailed anyone, yet recieved the Showersaint today! i cant see any harm in using a free energy saving product, in no way could they get your personal household details by sending this!!
I received a card some time ago and after reading a forum decided it was a scam. But guess what, a shower saint thingy arrived in the post today and that’s exactly where it’s going back to. I have obliterated my address details and am sending it straight back to them.
Yea just received card addressed to my daughter – gotta be a scam!!
I also received this unrequested card and having tried both telephone and E to no avail feel threatened by it. If this is how I feel what about others who may be more nervous or unknowing of such scams? THEY SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND STOPPED!
Well now, let’s see….
Principle 6 (rights of the individual) of the Data Protection Act states:
“Personal data shall be processed in accordance with the rights of data subjects under this Act.”
The rights referred to include:
a right to object to processing that is likely to cause or is causing damage or distress;
a right to prevent processing for direct marketing;
So, from reading this forum (having myself received a card yesterday), I’d say Principle 6 has not been complied with in any way, shape or form (and there’s a few dubious elements around some of the other principles as well) – the company is, therefore, in breach of (or very close to being) the Data Protection Act.
I had one of these card today addressed to my Father who has been dead for some 20 years. If he can request a ShowerSaint now – wow.
I have reported these people to Trading Standards, it’s either a fraud or a list cleanse.
I have received one of these cards today and was immediately quite alarmed for the same reason as many others it seems. I haven’t asked for one, and I don’t want one but let’s see. You want me to ring and give my address or email to say I don’t want one. That way you will a) know I live here for sure and b) what my email address is. I think not but if I get one of these I will be complaining to trading standards. You cannot force a product on a consumer who has never asked to receive it surely and why should I spend my time emailing or calling to tell you I don’t want something I never asked for in the first place. Frankly I think like most people here we just don’t believe this isn’t some scam to get personal details or confirm addresses. By the way the website says a response will be used only in relation to free energy saving offers, not this one in particular and the company is a marketing company called energy alliance who I suspect have many companies on their books apart from showersaint so whilst they reckon they wint pass on details to a third party chances are if we reply we will still get other ‘energy saving products’ none of us ever asked for from companies on their books. I find this quite disgusting and the supposed response highly insulting to the intelligence of this forum. Google it, first page of results are forums like this discussing how wrong it all is.
I GOT THE POSTCARD TODAY AND TRIED RINGING 0800644-34OO
I GOT AN ELEDLEY GENT ,WHO I HAD TO APOLIGISE TO FOR DISTURBING HIM ,AND THE PHONE NUMBER ONLINE 02085454018 WAS DEAD LINE.
i received the card to day, i did ask for it through martin lewis site, i have the same number as u, but have done nothing about it, now i am a bit worried its a scam, but as it was on martin lewis site i swore it was real.
Well that’s fine then. If you actually asked for it then it’s quite right that you should receive it.
I have received first a card form this company and then a few weeks later I received the so called shower saint that is supposed to save you water, that is kind of pointless if you want to save water just don’t turn the tap full on when you have a shower, however I thought I’d give it a try to see if it would make much of a difference without changing the pressure of the water, well it does lower the pressure of the water as it let’s less water through, however my shower has an eco feature that does exactly the same thing but with a better pressure so I removed it and found to my amusement that it changed the threading inside the shower hose (the head of the hose) so it no longer fits without the device, forcing you to save water or waste money because you will have to buy a new hose, I thought I would have to buy a new hose for the shower, however it is a recession and I didn’t want to waste the money, so I put a Phillips screw driver throughtit removing the centre of the valve so my shower now works fine again but I have to have the piece on or buy a new hose.
I don’t think it is a scam as such but like when energy companies started sending you free low energy bulbs, they only do it to meet targets set by the government to lower people’s consumption of water, the option is yours, they can’t later charge as the the leaflet with the item says it is free, it would be against the law….
If you search on some other forums, someone found out that the company is actually called Acrobat marketing solutions and as previously suggested it is an address harvesting scam.
All it is a marketing campaign to obtain household details, i.e. if you try to call them (even unsuccessfully) or email them they will capture your details as you have now proven to them that the details they already have (name and house address to send the initial card or the item itself).
When they have the proven details they will use them to sell to other companies who will send you other offers/etc.
Best advice, ignore the first card that comes trough the door, do not call them and do not email them, and do not send the item back!
This is a social engineering trick of getting people annoyed to make sure we contact this unscrupulous idiots so they can capture our info to sell on to other companies.
If you have not order a specific item, never sign any thing, never pay for it and do not give them your details.
Same issue when cold callers contacts you and using social engineering to tell the call who your gas supplier, etc is so they can counteract with an offer from a different supplier, yet again another unscrupulous business behaviour.
To be safe out there never, ever, give your details out to anybody that you have contacted in the first place.
P.S. Darren is a clever idiot who is stirring your feelings by asking you to contact them! do not bite and just leave it be as that is the only way we can stop them to confirm if we do exists and if the address is correct (when you call they capture your telephone number, so please always add 1471 in front of the number you are calling so you they can see you number).
Good luck and be safe out there.
They received 10000 made up names and addresses recently by requesting on their website.
If they are harvesting details, its going to be impossible for them to work out which details are genuine because they have been flooded with so many illegitimate requests.
That should make their whole scam operation worthless hopefully and this should cease.
The company behind this scam is legally obliged to provide a court with the evidence of the supposed request. Failure to actively stop this thing being delivered does not constitute a request to recieve it and so don’t pay them anything when they ask, see them in court.
They are drawing up a ‘suckers list’ which they will sell off.
The Postcard states @We’ve received a request for a FREE Showersaint, thank you”
That is completely untrue no one in this house – or my 82 year old mothers house who also got one – has requested a free gizmo.
So who is prepare to trust people who are lying?
My Old mum was quite distressed by this as she i sworried about her memory as it is.
Scum.
What a cuffuffle this has caused. I got a postcard, this morning, which lead me through some alarming threads. I would hazard to guess that many of us postcard receivers have registered an interest in saving fuel/water, or reducing our carbon footprint, at some point. For the rest – it’s a bit worrying. The website, for the item, is up and running now (just checked it) so I can’t see the harm in trying out the device (if and when it comes). The problem is we live in a world where we are constantly being victimised by scams and scammers can access data collections as easily as genuine companies. It might be an idea, in future, if genuine companies (via their links to energy companies and government schemes etc.) get their websites up and running before they roll out their distribution! It’s the data collection agencies, that are a bit grubby, not new government scheme subsidised companies. I was reluctant to send an email/phone a number/pass on further identifying details without finding out what it was all about first. But now I have seen the website, and the thingy will come through the letterbox and will apparently work on my shower, I’ll give it a go. Just… In future, similar companies and ‘heart in the right place’ schemes, make sure you explain yourselves a bit better (on any mailings) and make sure your website is comprehensive and functioning first!
Hi Pam. I agree with everything you have posted. Initially, we were rather naive, in assuming that people wouldn’t be too unhappy about receiving a free energy saving device. Unfortunately, I suppose it’s a sign of the times that people automatically assume there is some kind of catch. Hopefully, we have now got our house in order and everyone can see we are above board.
Darren ,
I dont know how you can enjoy your job knowing how much stress you are causing people.
Dont forget this must be a fraction of people who are this upset enough to actually have accessed this forum to express their feelings.
As you know there are definitely SCAMMERS out there so why if this product is genuine are you contacting people which are not interested. WHERE ARE YOU GETTING THE MONEY TO DO THIS ?supposedly to do us a favour.
Instead of using the money WASTEFULLY you should be sending the MONEY TO CHILDREN IN NEED. That would then be a much nicer thing to do wouldn’t it ? Then everyone would have a much better night’s sleep.
So SHOWERSAINT if your product drops through the door as I cant contact you to stop it , it will be ‘ RETURNED TO SENDER ‘
SO MUCH FOR THE REDUCTION IN THE CARBON REDUCTION SCHEME I think you will have a lot to answer for if others do the same as me.
Ken – I am sorry that you are upset. You should be able to cancel. The easiest way is via email nothanks@showersaint.com. Let me reiterate the device is genuinely free of charge and we will not be selling anyone’s personal details. We pay internet marketing companies who have promoted the device on our behalf on their websites for example http://www.myfamilyuk.com/ We then send out the postcard as a further precaution to give anyone who doesn’t want to receive it an opportunity to opt out.
Darren,
Rubbish…. The email does not work and keeps sending back mail as failed delivery status!
I have at no time opted in to recieve this item, this HAS been sent unsolicited, i dont even have a shower in this house to use this on!!!!
I will be requesting an investigation into why this gas been recieved and will continue to darken the name if this so called business and its ethics via media such as facebook and twitter!!!
Do not send me anything again from your company.. or you will be reported to trading standards and consumer direct!!
I just received one of these ShowerSaint mailings as well, and not only did I not request it but I’m registered on the mail preference service. If I do get any further communication from them, I will be forwarding it to the MPS who can demand an explanation.
I too have just received one of these postcards. Not prepared to e mail or waste my time on a so – called free phone number. I have just written on the front of the postcard-’DELETE FROM MAILING’ put in envelope and sent to the return address printed on the top. I have not added a stamp-maybe they might think twice about sending these out if they have to pay the post office charges!!!
OK “Darren” if its not a scam then how come the phone lines dont work the e mail does not work!!! i get sick to death of companie like this sending rubbish out in the post that I DID NOT REQUEST!I can imagine some elderly person who has recieved this postcard fretting over a parcel for something they did not request.
How can I possible cancel this “thing” if your phone lines do not work??
you state – “Clearly we under-estimated the amount of activity the offer has generated” it is not an offer it is an item forced on people that may not want it. i for one do not.
Please inform your “company” that you need to post a working telephone number or those of us that wish to decline your offer before you get inundated with calls from trading standards (thats is they can get through to you!!)
Hi Claire. I am sorry you are having problems contacting us. I have again checked the freephone number 0800 6443400 and the email address nothanks@showersaint.com and both work. Moreover, we have received lots of emails and phone calls to date, so lots of people are getting in touch. Please note that the phone is only manned between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday. If all else fails then you could return the postcard to Unit 9, Rhodes Business Park, Middleton, Manchester, M24 4PN
Just received card through door addressed to person who hasn’t lived here for over 5 years. I feel sure that if she had requested one of these gadgets she would have remembered she had moved house. I wonder if it one of these ploys that debt agencies use to try to confirm a people address. The other ploy is very similar, card to say a parcel for “so and so” could not be delivered and asks you to ring to rearrange delivery. Just ignore it.
Hi Ken. As I have detailed in my earlier posts this offer is not a ploy. If you do not opt out via the freephone number or emailing nothanks@showersaint.com, you will receive the product. However, as it fits through the letterbox and does not require a signature you will not be asked to sign anything. We hope you find the product useful, but if you’d rather not receive it please email nothanks@showersaint.com.
It may be genuine and not a ploy, HOWEVER, there are such nefarious items on the loose and out to dupe unsuspecting recipients. Your marketing people need to be stood against a wall and pelted with rotten vegetation. Mailshots do not work, they are awash (pardon the pun) with suspicion and doubt. I read the smallprint, but even that did not allay my suspicion.
I received a mail from a reliable source that there is a scam involving a proposed failed delivery (card through the door) and people are phoning the number and ending up with a £350 phone bill. This is a very real issue and my source works with the Police in the Fraud Office. Rethink your marketing. Good luck if it is genuine, but you are dealing with a very wary and skint public. There is no such thing as FREE, has to be a catch somewhere.
I work for the company which is giving the Showersaint product away. First of all I can assure you this is not a scam or an attempt to acquire marketing information. The product is genuinely FREE and there is no obligation. We work with energy suppliers to help reduce carbon emmissions. We have contracted various data providers to acquire the details of households (via web offers and promotions) who would like to receive product. Individuals should not be receiving the product unsolicited and we ask our data providers to provide IP addresses of anyone who has requested the product. Furthermore, they are challenged should we receive details of anyone who has received a postcard but not expressed an interest in the product. To meet the rules of the carbon reduction scheme we are obliged to send out a postcard in order to provide potential recipients with an opportunity to opt out before we send out the product. The website (www.showersaint.com) has now been updated with lots of useful information and we have set up a new dedicated freephone line (0800 6443400) which should be answered during normal business hours. On behalf of our company I apologise for any confusion which has been caused. Clearly we under-estimated the amount of activity the offer has generated, but we hope now that we are providing more information and our systems are adequate to handle any concerns or questions people may have.
Darren,
Just received one of your unsolicited scam postcards and checked out this forum and see you talk about working for the company…..who is this company? tell us who your company is and provide its registred details to save us checking with companies house and we can make up our own minds up as to whether your are genuine or not
I have today recieved a parcel from them i have not asked for it at all, do not know what it is and want to know what is going on!! I have been scammed begore by other companies but kind find out anything solid about this one?! Abd like poeple have saud phone lines and email are non existant!! Wat to do now!??? Help!
Hi Debbie. I have just tested the freephone line and nothanks@showersaint.com. Both worked for me. I used the new dedicated freephone number in my earlier post. You can also opt out of the offer via our website http://www.showersaint.com. If you decide not to opt out you will NOT be charged for the product. We are working with energy companies to supply a free product which will save water and gas and reduce carbon emissions. There really is no catch. The new website is quite informative and should tell you everything you need to know about the offer and our company.
I opted out and have today received the product anyway. I’m not paying to return it, so TNT can pick it up again since they didn’t give me the opportunity to refuse delivery.
We have also just received one of these postcards addressed to my daughter – as with previous post she does not pay any household bills.I have just reported this to my local trading standards office who have taken the details of my complaint in respect of this company – the person I spoke to suspects that they bought my daughters details from a company she has purchased online from.
I too have not replied to them by email as I do not want them to be able to connect a postal and email addresses.
He also advised that as this is unsolicited mail all we need to do is refuse to accept any parcel deliveries from this company. I intend to tape this card to the back of our front door as a reminder to everyone in the house not to accept any goods from them.
Hope this is of some use to others.
I too have received one of these post cards addressed to my son who hasn’t lived at this address for over a year and is not in the country. That aside why would he ask for something like this when we don’t have a shower and he is not the homeowner!! Alarm bells rang when I remembered the UPS Undeliverable scam that came up recently. Rang number on postcard but dead. Didn’t bother with email Returned to Sender Not Known at this Address.
My parents have today (17/11/11) received a post card also. They tried to ring the number (twice) but it was unobtainable. They also tried the email address to no avail.
I have told them to contact their telephone provider to see how much, if anything, the telephone calls cost. Is this a premium rate phone number scam? I have also told them to run any security software they have and to remove all temp files and cookies.
Questions; How did they get my parents address? Are they on a list of victims being passed around by scammers? How do they get money from this? It could be that this is a green Government initiative, but if so, why don’t they say and why aren’t they contactable. Their website is also “under construction”. Very suspicious indeed.
I have told them to report the matter as a non-emrgency to their local police.
This postcard came through the post today for my daughter. Seeing as she doesn’t have anything to do with the household bills I am NOT pleased. As others state I too phoned two freephone numbers and they are dead. I feel this is a scam too, to obtain email addresses. Glad others took the time to put comments here about this, as it is so time consuming to know what to do for the best . Thanks.
P.S the two freephone numbers I have were 0800 644 3400 on the postcard and 0800 644 5100 off the internet. Both don’t work.
i think this is defo dodgy funny how phone numbers dead though.
tried and tried to phone number but to no avail tried also to send e-mail again unsuccesfully.
