Amazon Stock Price Prediction and Deep Dive October 2026

Avatar Moneymagpie Team 13th Oct 2026 No Comments

Amazon is one of the world’s most well-known companies and often top of mind for investors looking for a proven growth stock. Recently, there have been reports that Amazon is in talks to buy an AI start-up. The shares sit within their 52-week range of $196.00 to $287.20, and the company is worth around $2.8 trillion. So where could Amazon go next, and is it worth a look for UK investors?

In this guide we cover where the share price stands, what the latest results show, the huge amount Amazon is spending on AI, what analysts think, and how you could buy shares from the UK.

Data from StockAnalysis.com. A quick bit of jargon: the P/E ratio (price-to-earnings) compares the share price with a company’s profit per share. The forward P/E uses profits analysts expect over the next year.

What is moving the Amazon share price right now?

Friday’s jump followed reports, from the Wall Street Journal and others, that Amazon is in talks to acquire Decart, an AI start-up whose software helps developers switch between different AI chips. The reported price is around $7 billion, against a private valuation of nearly $4 billion in May. No deal has been signed.

The idea is that easier chip-switching could steer developers towards Amazon’s own Trainium chips and away from Nvidia. It only works if Decart’s tools still work with rival chips too, so treat it as a story, not a done deal.

Latest results: AWS is booming, but spending is enormous

Amazon’s second-quarter results (reported in July) were strong on the surface:

  • Sales: $200.6bn, up 20% on a year ago.
  • AWS (Amazon Web Services, its cloud computing arm): $42.2bn, up 37%. CEO Andy Jassy called it the fastest growth in 18 quarters.
  • Operating income (profit from running the business): $27.5bn, up 43%.
  • Net income: $62.6bn, but $53.4bn of that was non-operating income, mainly from Amazon’s investments in Anthropic. That is a paper gain, not money from selling things, so don’t take the headline profit at face value.
  • Free cash flow: over the last 12 months, an outflow of $7.6bn, versus an inflow of $18.2bn a year earlier. Free cash flow is the cash left after running costs and big investments.

Why the cash drain? Capital spending (money spent on data centres, chips and equipment) reached $173bn over the last 12 months, up 64%, mainly because of AI. That is a huge bet that today’s spending turns into tomorrow’s profits.

Amazon’s guidance for the next quarter

Amazon expects third-quarter sales of $197bn to $202bn, growth of 9% to 12%, and operating income of $22.5bn to $26.5bn, versus $17.4bn a year earlier.

The next results are estimated for around 29 October, though the date is not yet confirmed, so check Amazon’s investor relations site. Results days often bring big moves in either direction.

Amazon stock price prediction: what do analysts think?

Nobody can predict share prices, and you should be wary of anyone who claims to. What we can do is look at published opinions. The consensus from 60 analysts is Strong Buy, with an average 12-month target of about $331.20, around 28% above the current price.

Analysts’ targets are often too optimistic, and they get revised constantly.

Here are some reference points, which are not forecasts:

Reference point Price Versus $259.53
52-week low $196.00 About 25% lower
52-week high (all-time high) $287.20 About 11% higher
Average analyst target $331.20 About 28% higher

Chart watchers, such as one TradingKey analysis, point to $260 as support (a level where buyers have stepped in), with resistance (a ceiling where sellers appear) around $267.56 and then the $287.20 record. Technical analysis is opinion too, and it can fail.

The bull case and the bear case

Why Amazon could rise

  • AWS growth is accelerating, and cloud is a high-margin business.
  • Operating profit is growing faster than sales.
  • Amazon’s own chips and possible deals like Decart could strengthen its AI position.
  • Analysts are broadly positive.

Why Amazon could fall

  • Free cash flow has turned negative because of enormous AI spending; if the payoff is slower than hoped, the market may punish it.
  • Headline profit is inflated by Anthropic investment gains, which can reverse.
  • The forward P/E of about 27.7 leaves less room for disappointment.
  • The Decart deal could fall through, or Amazon could overpay.
  • Third-quarter sales growth is guided down to 9% to 12% from 20%.

Is Amazon a buy for UK beginners?

Amazon is a global giant spanning shopping, cloud and AI, which many investors like. But it pays no dividend, so any return depends entirely on the share price rising. That makes it a growth share, and growth shares can swing widely, just look at the $196 to $287 range this year.

It is generally wiser to build a core of diversified index funds first and treat single shares such as Amazon as a smaller extra, if at all. And remember that Amazon is often already a big holding inside global index funds.

How to buy Amazon shares in the UK: 6 steps

  1. Pick an FCA-regulated platform that offers US shares, and compare dealing fees and currency conversion fees, since Amazon is priced in dollars.
  2. Choose your account. A Stocks and Shares ISA shelters gains from UK tax. US shares generally don’t attract UK stamp duty, but check your platform’s costs.
  3. Decide how much, using only money you won’t need for at least five years.
  4. Use fractional shares if your platform offers them, so you can invest a small amount without buying a whole $260 share.
  5. Consider drip-feeding your money in monthly rather than buying all at once before earnings.
  6. Review every few months, not every day, and re-read Amazon’s results to check your reasons for owning it still hold.

This article is for general information and education only. It is not regulated financial advice, a personal recommendation or a forecast. Investing involves risk: the value of investments can go down as well as up, you may get back less than you put in, and US shares are priced in dollars so exchange rates also affect returns. Figures are as reported on 12–13 October 2026 and change constantly. Do your own research or speak to a regulated financial adviser before investing.
