What Hardship Grants are Available this Month?

 One of the questions we often get asked at MoneyMagpie is: how do we access hardship grants? How do we access funds fast? People often start googling terms such as “get money now” and “get money quick”, and read our many suggestions for often fun ways to make quick cash.

However, one thing a lot of people aren’t fully aware of is that there are lots of hardship grants available when times are hard. It is a priority to round these up for our readers and help you get on your feet again, particularly with increased living costs meaning we are all feeling the strain.

National grants

The Vegetarian charity

The Vegetarian Charity provides grants of up to £500 to vegans and vegetarianism up to the age of 26 who need help with paying for educational costs or essential items. There is no final deadline for applications with the whole process taking around 3 months.  

Lawrence Atwell’s Charity

Lawrence Atwell’s Charity provides grants to young people aged between 16 – 26 from low-income backgrounds. They will award between £100 – £1500 to help young people gain accredited vocational qualifications. Applications are taken at any point throughout the year. You are encouraged to apply at least 8 weeks before your start date.  

The Boots benevolent fund

The Boots Benevolent Fund provides funding to ex and current Boots employees in the UK who are going through financial hardship. They can provide grants, interest-free loans and supermarket vouchers for a variety of needs.  

the b&ce’s charitable trust

The B&CE’s Charitable Trust, provides help to construction workers who have worked in the trade for at least 12 months when experiencing financial difficulties. They also provide education and training grants to retrain or return to work. There is no deadline and each application is looked at on a case-by-case basis. 

 

Yorkshire and the humber

The sheffield church burgess trust

The Sheffield Church Burgess Trust provides grants to young people under the age of 25 to assist with education. If you or a parent have been permanently living in Sheffield for 3 years you are eligible to apply, grants can be awarded to help further training in sport or music among other activities. The is no set deadline but the awarding body only meet 4 times per year so it may take a while to hear back.  

the ww spooner charitable trust

The W W Spooner Chratiable Trust provides grants to individuals living in the West and North Ridings of Yorkshire. Grants have been given out for a range of reasons. These include helping to fund a new hall, clubs and to purchase art for the benefit of the public. There is no set deadline and applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis.  

 

Devon, Plymouth, Cornwall

the northcott devon foundation

The Northcott Devon Foundation provides grants to individuals living in Devon who are in need and have a disability, bereavement, illness or exceptional disadvantage who cannot get local authority help. Applications are reviewed monthly.  

the dulce haigh marshall trust

The Dulce Haigh Marshall Trust provided grants to help in the tuition of and purchase of instruments for young strings players under the age of 25, from Devon. The deadline for the next applications in May 1st 2022.  

 

Tyneside

the non-ecclesiastical charity of william moulton

The Non-Ecclesiastical Charity of William Moulton help people in need who have lived within the boundaries of Newcastle upon Tyne for at least 12 months. Grants can be awarded for carpets, white goods, furniture etc. There is no final deadline for applications.  

 

London

scotscare

ScotsCare provides grants to help Scots, their widows and children, who need help and live within 35 miles of Charing Cross in London. Grants are given out for a range of reasons from clothes poverty to counselling, there is no deadline for applications.
