The Post Office has a history of helping people in need – and it’s ramped up its efforts once again. Low income families could be eligible for a £15 weekly voucher to help feed their children.

The Post Office Payout service helps people receive grants for things like school uniform and food grants. This year, it is anticiapted to make 1 million cash payouts to help people in need. The service is vital for many low income people, because anyone can access funds – even those who cannot get a bank account. It is also an essential touch point for vulnerable people, with Postmasters playing an important role in their communities.

How It Works

The voucher scheme delivers a voucher either by email or by a unique bar code sent in the post. This is one of the few services that is truly inclusive, as it takes into account many low income households cannot afford an internet connection. Vouchers can be redeemed at over 11,500 Post Office branches, making it easy to access funds for necessities such as household essentials and groceries.

Simon Lambert, commercial & operations director at the Post Office, said: “The Payout voucher scheme really exemplifies everything Post Office stands for: providing support for those who need it, in an easy and accessible way, led by Postmasters at the heart of their local communities.

“We know that for families who access free school meals, summer holidays can often be a tough time, such as in parts of Cornwall, London and Yorkshire, where uptake of the voucher scheme is at its highest.

“That’s why we’re glad Post Office is able to help facilitate the voucher scheme for communities across the UK whilst supporting Postmasters drive footfall and revenue.”

The Post Office Payout scheme is run in collaboration with local authorities. Contact your local authority to find out if you are eligible and how to claim.
