It’s spooky season and that means competition for the cheapest pumpkin is high between the supermarkets this year. If you want to have something to carve this weekend ahead of Halloween next week, we’ve compared pumpkin prices to help you get the best value.
The size of your pumpkin matters! If you want small decorations without carving, you can opt for small gourds or mini pumpkins. These are more expensive by gram, but look very cute and make nice decorations.
For pumpkin carving parties, you’ll want a mid-size pumpkin that is both value for money and easy for anyone to carve.
To make a statement on your doorstep, opt for a large or giant pumpkin. Keep your decorations safe by placing LED candles inside rather than real ones!
Because there are so many different sizes and variations, we’ve chosen three options to compare: the smallest decorative size, the mid-range pumpkin carving party size and the giants. Not all shops have giant options.
| Supermarket | Small (Munchkin) | Medium | Giant |
| Tesco | 60p (two for one with Clubcard) | 65p | £3.15 (£2.75 Clubcard) |
| Aldi | 42p | 65p | £5.99 |
| Lidl | 42p | 69p | £2.39 |
| Waitrose | £1.20 | £2.50 | £3.50 |
| Sainsburys | 85p | 65p | £6.99 (Big Orange)
£3.00 (Monster) |
| Morrisons | 75p | £1 | £2.50 |
| Marks and Spencer (Ocado) | £1.25 | £2.25 | £3.00 |
| Asda | 42p | £1.65 | N/A |
So, who comes out on top?
For those wanting small munchkin decorative pumpkins: you’ve got a choice of three! Aldi, Lidl, and Asda are all 42p. However if you have a Tesco Clubcard (which is free), you can get two for 60p, making them 30p each.
For the pumpkin carving size, once again, there’s a choice (supermarkets are very competitive this year!). Tesco, Aldi, and Sainsburys have the cheapest at 65p.
For the super-size pumpkin: Lidl is this year’s super-sized winner.
