Air fryers are the must-have kitchen appliance that you don’t need selling on if you have one, or you may be in need of convincing if you don’t. The reason these compact ovens have caught on is that they really do revolutionise baking and cooking, not least because they’re less daunting than cooking with a full-size oven, but also because they have many advantages over their larger cousin. Some food actually tastes better in the air fryer and is much more fun to make.

Even Jamie Oliver has got in on the action with his new air fryer series, and we can attest to the fact that just because they’re small, doesn’t mean they skimp on delicious culinary results. We’re recent air fryer converts ourselves so can testify to their brilliance, but here are five of the best that we’ve tried and tested, and worked out how they differ.

Like the others it has a removable non-stick basket, is easy to clean and can be washed by hand or in the dishwasher.

This one also has an outstanding motor structure, and the sound is only 55 dB when running, so even if you’re talking on the phone while you cook, it won’t mess up your phone call!
