NHS workers are appreciated by all of us for the hard work they do – and that’s reflected by many companies who offer NHS discounts, or ‘blue light discounts’. Here are our favourite NHS discounts available right now and how to get them:
Mobile, Broadband, TV Discounts
We know how hard NHS staff work, so it’s amazing to see so many great discounts for holidays and travel.
TUI offer Holidays for Heroes, which gives you an extra £100 off bookings over £1200 or £30 off bookings under that limit – and you can still take advantage of all the usual offers too.
If you prefer a self-catered holiday closer to home, Hoseasons offers 7% off for NHS workers on standard bookings, or you can get 30% off a last-minute booking.
You could save an average of £7,000 buying a new car as an NHS worker through Motorfinity.
They walk their talk when it comes to supporting those who work in the health service with discounts on brand-new car purchases from top UK manufacturers AND great finance options if you want to lease a car instead.
Keeping fit doesn’t have to be costly when you have an NHS discount to hand.
PureGym, for example, offers a £0 joining fee with 10% discount on most memberships. Nuffield Health offers a huge 30% discount at any of its wellbeing centres across the UK to NHS workers, too.
Other gyms such as David Lloyd, Anytime Fitness, and even your local independent leisure centre offer discounts, too.
Days out with the family are always great fun – but the costs easily rack up. Activities and entertainment costs can be quite high, plus travel costs, meals and sundries. Make the most of NHS discounts for days out to reduce the financial burden without reducing any fun!
Go Ape offers 15% off for NHS workers, while a Merlin Annual Pass discount gives you a single fee for unlimited entry to all sorts of attractions from Thorpe Park to Legoland to Chessington World of Adventures, Madame Tussauds and even Sea Life centres.
If you’re looking for something special to do, perhaps for a birthday adventure, Red Letter days offers NHS workers a 15% discount.
Morrisons offer a free annual delivery pass worth £65 to NHS workers, plus exclusive discounts, as an easy way to save on your grocery shopping each week.
Asda offers 10% of each shop back in their Asda Rewards app, giving you cash to spend or save for a big shop later on.
Did you know that you could save money on buying a house? It’s true! NHS workers could benefit from Barratt Homes’ Key Workers Deposit Scheme. This means that, for every £20,000 you spend on a Barratt Home, you’ll get £1,000 contributed towards your deposit. For a £325,000 house, that’s a whopping £16,000 off your deposit!
Taylor Wimpey homes also offer a similar scheme for key workers, with up to £15,000 towards your deposit.
While there are always deals around such as kids eat free during school holidays, NHS workers can often take advantage of year-round food and drink discounts.
Pizza Hut, Beefeater, and Bella Italia all offer a 25% discount, while you could nab a 20% discount at Toby Carvery, Ask Italian, Yo! Sushi, McDonald’s, Nandos’s and Bill’s. Make sure you check the details before you order anything – some might include or exclude certain menu items, and most won’t include your drinks order.
Finding a great deal on your mobile phone contract can help to slash your monthly outgoings, so we’re really pleased to see that EE, O2, and Vodafone all have up to 25% off pay monthly mobile phone contracts. Make sure you do your research before committing to a contract, though, as you might find a seasonal deal that saves you even more money.
EE is also one of the few broadband providers that offers up to 20% off home broadband for NHS workers, while BT and TalkTalk have offered a similar discount in the past. It is always worth calling up the sales department of a broadband provider to find out the best deal they have – and whether you can add an NHS or Key Worker discount on top of that.
While streamers don’t directly offer NHS discounts, there are sometimes ways you can get one. For example, the Blue Light Card scheme (or similar NHS discount scheme, as there are several available) will have streaming offers from time-to-time. Another way to look for reduced TV costs is through your broadband or mobile phone provider, as they will often offer packages with discounted streamer access for a trial period.
The eligibility for NHS discounts vary. Sometimes, you need to be a current NHS worker. Others are available for former and retired NHS workers, as well as their families. Many discounts, such as those available at your local shops, just need you to show your NHS ID. Others are available through schemes – for example, the Blue Light Card (£4.99 for two years) gives you access to ones listed in this article like Motorfinity, Asda, and many holiday options. A membership card like this might cost a small amount but could easily save you thousands of pounds each year in NHS discounts!
